The further we go into this semester I come to realize that I am going to encounter ideals or even events that have tried or did go against what equality is or what it should be. The more we discuss in class the more upset and furious I become. Last week or so we went over a story that I thought raised two questions. Is equality the same for women to men as it should be for men to women. And do those who think boys should not play with girls believe women are inferior.
In class we watched a news reel of a boy who played on a girls field hockey team because there was no boys team. Yet over 90% of the parents of the girls on the team don't want him to participate with thier daughters. Now that is so backwards. I first initially thought "why is there so much contriversy if a guy plays on a girl team while girls fight to play with boys all the time. Is he showing femininity? His intent was to only stay inshape for ice hockey. A Dr. Wade said field hockey is not a sportwhere the bigger taller player is the best fit." the only reason the boy was even talked about was because he was actually good, for example there is another boy on the team who is not so good and sits on the bench

In the piece there was talk about if the opposite sexes do play on teams there should be a limit.Which does make sense. At the end of the the best athlete should play whether its a girl or a guy.
I don't think guys should be able to play on girls teams, but girls should be able to play on guys teams. I know that sounds unfair, but guys just are genetically more athletic than females. It would be like college athletes being allowed to play at the high school level. There are some females that can play with men and I think that those are the ones that should be on males teams.
ReplyDeleteWhat about the guy in the example I used just trying to stay in shape, and in a sport where bigger stronger does not neccessarily mean you are garaunteed playing time. I definitly feel if the level is equal in certain circumstances boys and girls should be allowed to play together. If a girl tried out for kicker on a college football team and out kicked the boys she should be given a shot.
ReplyDeleteI agree that if society is saying girls can play on girls teams, then we have to do the same for males. I think the fact that there were 2 boys on that field hockey team and the other one did not play much is showing the coach is not only playing a boy because she thinks boys are better than girls, but because he his simply the best PERSON for the job.
ReplyDeleteI personally feel that men should be able to play on women and women on men if they do have the sport in there own gender. I believe everyone should be given the chance to prove themselves on the field. I could not believe all of the parents whom were against the boy playing on their daughters team. You would of thought they would be happy the team is winning instead of how much time their kids where getting to play.
